En dag for lang tid siden, da jeg kom ned i produktionshallen, så jeg en medarbejder i vanskeligheder. Han bar på en kasse, der var tung. Han svedte og bandede, over at han ikke kunne stabilisere den i balance, så han nemt kunne bære den. Jeg tænkte, at det ikke er godt. Det leder til rygskader det, han gør. Så jeg viste ham, hvordan man bøjer sig ned i knæene, når noget skal løftes. Fortalte ham, at han ikke må bøje sin ryg. Det er i ryggen, at balancen er, og bøjes ryggen, så kommer man automatisk ud af balance. Kraften sidder i benene. Man behøver ikke at være et fitnesstrænet muskelbundt for at udføre den opgave.
Min medarbejder forsøgte at løfte kassen efter mine anvisninger, og det gik nemt for ham. Han smilte og sagde tak for et godt råd.

Satte tanker i gang

Det fik mig til at tænke på, at mange af mine medarbejdere gennem tiden har klaget over rygsmerter igennem tiden. Især dem, nede i lager‐afdelingen. Stof til eftertanke. Måske har jeg glemt at fortælle dem under ansættelsen, hvordan de skal håndtere varerne og pakkerne – og hvordan de skal passe på deres helbred under arbejdet? Det, som de gør i lagerafdelingen, er en vigtig del af virksomheden. Det er her, produkter pakkes og sendes afsted til kunderne. Fungerer lageret ikke, så går virksomheden i stå. Så enkelt er det.

Altid observere

Jeg fortæller dig dette her, som et eksempel på, at det er vigtigt, at man hele tiden observerer, hvad der sker i en virksomhed og sørger for, at arbejdsgangene hele tiden forbedres. Nu eksemplet med manden der brugte sin ryg forkert. Jeg er sikker på, at hvis han ikke fik at vide, at man kan løfte ting på en sundere måde, end han havde gjort, så ville han melde sig syg med rygproblemer i løbet af kort tid. Det ville betyde, at lageret ville blive såret, fordi en medarbejder mindre betyder langsommere udsendelser af produkterne.
Den konkrete hændelse fik mig også til at tænke på, at det var for dårligt, at de andre medarbejdere nede i lagerafdelingen ikke havde sagt noget til ham. Hvor længe havde han arbejdet der, inden jeg så ham? Jeg besluttede, at det skulle der gøres noget ved. Vores lagerchef er som regel god til at give anvisninger til nye medarbejdere, men hvorfor havde han ikke vist manden, hvordan man løfter? Måske på grund af travlhed. Jeg besluttede derfor at ændre kurs i ledelsesformen i virksomheden. Der skal være flere medarbejdere, der har de samme kompetencer, så der, hvor den ene ikke kan udføre arbejdet af en eller anden grund, er der muligt, at en anden kan. Noget med at fordele kompetencerne. Og ansvaret.

Lean kursus

Og hvordan gjorde jeg det? Jeg fandt et Lean kursus hos Leanakademiet til vores forskellige afdelingsledere, som de blev sent på. De fik særlig træning i, hvordan de kan udrøre træning til nye medarbejdere i deres særlige afdeling og sikre sig, hvordan den træning ikke ’glemmes’, men bibeholdes og opgraderes løbende. Det har givet vores virksomhed et bedre rygte, fordi alle medarbejdere taler om, at de bliver oplært på en god og konstruktiv måde.
